This article examines the development of criminal legislation in SCO member states regarding criminal liability for extremist acts in the context of the implementation of the provisions of the SCO international treaties on countering extremism. Based on an analysis of SCO international legal documents, the comprehensive regulation of public relations in the field of countering extremism in the SCO is noted, as well as the potential for the implication and implementation of international legal norms (both in specific terminology and in formal legal terms). A comparative legal analysis of the development of criminal legislation in SCO member states reveals a consistent, but different-speed, development of the institution of criminal liability for extremist acts in SCO countries. All SCO member states, without exception, have brought or are bringing their legislation on criminal liability for extremist crimes into line with the provisions of SCO documents. Furthermore, the potential for further improvement of both international legal and domestic regulation of relations in the field of countering extremism is noted.
