Abstract
This article presents the results of a survey of athletes, athlete support personnel, and sports lawyers regarding the need to establish criminal liability for certain violations in sports. Arguments supporting and opposing this proposal are presented. Taking into account the opinions of experts, the shortcomings of existing criminal law provisions regarding crimes in sports are analyzed. Attention is drawn to the relative "closed" nature of sports, which is why a number of violations that objectively pose a high degree of public danger remain regulated by sports law. The significant role of information exchange between sports organizations and law enforcement agencies regarding acts containing elements of a crime is noted in the identification, detection, and investigation of this type of crime. It is emphasized that the idea of creating a separate chapter in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation is not new and is not straightforward. Attention is focused on maintaining a balance between protecting public relations in sports and preventing excessive interference in this area. It is concluded that the idea of creating a specialized chapter in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on crimes in the sphere of sports can be considered as a possible way to improve the legislative regulation of sports activities in this area, but is not a key aspect of solving the problem. It is emphasized that existing criminal law provisions on crimes in the sphere of sports require adjustment. However, first and foremost, high-quality cooperation between sports organizations and law enforcement agencies must be established
