This study establishes that the Institute of Transport Prosecution in the USSR provided specialized prosecutorial supervision over the transport sector. It is determined that following the abolition of the unified all-Union system of transport prosecution in 1960, the necessity of restoring this institution remained unclear until the mid-1970s. However, the intensification of railway construction (the Baikal–Amur Mainline), the growing need for transport development to meet the demands of the national economy, an increase in crime on railways, and other factors prompted the country's leadership to decide on the restoration of the transport prosecution. The reconstruction of the transport prosecution system is shown to have occurred in two stages: the first from 1974 to 1979, and the second in 1980. Through the use of materials housed in the State Archive of the Irkutsk Region, the study reconstructs the practical implementation of all-Union directives at the level of a specific transport region. This research is relevant for expanding the source base on the history of the Soviet prosecutorial system. Drawing on archival materials from the Irkutsk Region (the East Siberian Transport Prosecution), the study reconstructs the organizational and legal process of restoring the transport prosecution in the USSR during the period 1974–1980. A comprehensive set of normative and regulatory acts that determined the timelines, locations, and structure of the newly established transport prosecution offices has been systematized and analyzed. The chronology of the introduction of transport prosecution offices in the East Siberian region is established within the context of all-Union directives. Distinctive features of the renewed organizational model of the transport prosecution, as compared to the one existing in the USSR prior to 1960, are identified. It is concluded that the renewed system of transport prosecution of the Soviet Union exhibited organizational differences from the one abolished in 1960.
