Abstract
The authors of the research claim the existing system of training and advanced training of forensic experts in the Russian Federation to be characterised as a set of disjointed educational pathways, insufficient integration of legal and special knowledge, as well as a lack of standardised requirements for developing meta-competencies. The analysis of regulatory legal acts made it possible to reveal the absence of a common professional standard joining up both the public and private sectors. As a result, the authors identified discrepancies in qualification requirements. The reasoning sections of court decisions for 2024–2025 were analysed, revealing a growing tendency among courts to evaluate not only the content of experts' reports, but also the competence, professional experience, objectivity, and scientific validity of their conclusions. A survey of experts from 14 regions of Russia reinforced the idea that mentoring is a must when training experts, in addition to developing "soft skills" like observation, critical thinking, and communication, along with theoretical training and technical skills. The authors offered proposals for developing a unified educational programme, implementing mandatory mentoring and integrated interdisciplinary modules into the centralised system of continuing professional education, thus ensuring the continuous development of experts capable of solving the problems of modern judicial proceedings
